This block sits just outside the Hemel-en-Aarde region, but with near-identical clay and shale dominant soils and the cooling influence from ocean breezes meeting its East-facing slopes, the terroir is similarly favourable to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Slightly further inland than the nearby Shaw’s Mountain site, the Kerksaal vineyard experiences colder nights and a resultantly higher diurnal range. Kerksaal fruit contributes to both the Peter Max Pinot Noir and The Agnes Chardonnay.
